Mercedes-Benz USA was recently honored with the prestigious Safe Kids Champion for Children Award. This is a recognition of the automaker’s significant impact on child injury prevention, which is a core value exemplified in new Mercedes-Benz models. Here at Mercedes-Benz of Owings Mills, our team is proud to be part of an automaker that carries its legacy of safety forward into community initiatives. This is what you need to know about the Mercedes-Benz brand’s child safety efforts.
The Champion for Children Award
Mercedes-Benz USA received this award from Safe Kids Worldwide for its Driving Your Future corporate social responsibility initiative. The program focuses on education and safety to empower the next generation of drivers. Since 2022, the partnership has had an impact on nearly 81,000 families by distributing over 43,000 safety devices, such as car seats and helmets. It has also partnered with Scholastic® to launch the children’s book Clifford Takes a Ride, which educates children on passenger and pedestrian safety.
A Legacy of Safety
Every new Mercedes-Benz vehicle is built with a suite of advanced features designed to protect all occupants, children and adults alike. This includes standard LATCH (Lower Anchors and Tethers for Children) and ISO-FIX® securing points for simple and secure car seat installation. Many new models also feature automatic child seat recognition, which adjusts airbag deployment to protect a child in a car seat.
The Mercedes-Benz PRE-SAFE® System
Beyond its child-specific hardware, Mercedes-Benz pioneered proactive in-car safety with its PRE-SAFE® system. If the sensors detect an imminent collision or rollover, it takes protective measures to protect occupants. This includes tightening seat belts, adjusting head restraints, and closing the windows and sunroof to protect the occupants.
