1967

This seminal year marks the founding of the AMG® brand by Hans Werner Aufrecht and Erhard Melcher in the humble environs of an old mill in Burgstall, Germany. What they lacked in capital and resources, they made up for in a passion for designing the ultimate performance car. They quickly found a willing partner and supporter in the Mercedes-Benz brand. 

1976

Just nine years after its birth, Mercedes-AMG® had become one of the hottest names on the luxury performance car circuit. The automaker was primed for its own state-of-the-art facility, with a purpose-built workshop and ample office space. The founders selected an ideal location in the city of Affalterbach, which remains the brand's design center nearly five decades later.

1986

In 1986, a legendary Mercedes-AMG® model was born. Nicknamed "The Hammer," this AMG® 300E boasts a 5.6-liter V8 engine capable of 360 horsepower and a top speed of 190mph. It was the world's fastest passenger sedan and another example of Mercedes-AMG® raising the bar for the rest of the auto industry.

1990

After 23 years of ever-closer cooperation, an official partnership was established between AMG® and Mercedes-Benz. With this agreement, AMG® gained full access to the Mercedes-Benz dealer system.

2017

Mercedes-AMG® celebrates its 50th anniversary with a limited-edition Mercedes-AMG® GT C, featuring exclusive Graphite Grey Magno paint, memorable black chrome highlights, a host of premium features, and commemorative Mercedes-AMG® accessories.

Looking Ahead

The future is bright for Mercedes-AMG®, beginning with the upcoming debut of the AMG® ONE hypercar. Rated at over 1,000 horsepower, this automobile will be the brand's first street-legal vehicle founded on F1 technology. It's the apex of automotive engineering, and we can't wait to see it.
